In Remembrance of My Classmate Chu Jiali

Created by Qinjian Chen 10 years ago
From my classmate Zheng Gongshao I heard my intimate classmate Chu Jiali passed away due to illness at the United State of America in July, 2010, I really grieved over his death. Jiali was a classmate of mine in The First Li Yang Road Primary School from 1955 to 1961. At that time junior students in school occasionally had lesson only in the morning, therefore, in the afternoon the teacher arranged students to have a ‘Family Study Group’ (which means to let students do, review their homework as well as play the games together in those students home, whose family circumstances is better.), the study group which I participated in was at Jiali’s home. I still remembered the foster parents of Jiali was Mr. Shen Yinmo and Mrs. Chu Baoquan, the kind parents delicately took good care of kids in the group. On leaning aspect they raised strict demands on us, and on living aspect they are very nice to us. We all affectionately called them Jiali’s dad and Jiali’s mum. There were a lot of books at Jiali’s home, at the beginning we read books, such as: Little Children, Childhood. Gradually we turned to read different kinds of comic books like Journey to the West, Romance of Three Kingdoms, Water Margin. When we were in the senior grade, sometimes we had opportunities to read the books collected by Mr. Shen Yinmo, which might be our first library we had in our childhood. It was a ‘luxury expectation’ for our kinds of students, whose family circumstances were not good, to have chance to appreciate so many books. At the same time such experience was really beneficial to our whole life. In retrospect, all episodes are so vivid in my mind that I will never forget. Soon we graduated from the primary school and continued our study in the middle school. One day I learned that Mr. Shen Yinmo was the most famous calligrapher in the modern era, suddenly one thought occurred to me was whether I could ask Mr. Shen Yinmo to write something for me. After the spring festival of 1962, I talked to Jiali and expressed my thought. Unbelievably, my dream came true, what really amazed me was that Mr. Shen Yinmo did sent me, a young boy, a fan leaf with his calligraphy work and signature (Mr. Shen called me as classmate of Jiali). Fifty years has passed, I preserved this sector calligraphy delicately, because not only is the sector calligraphy an art treasure which Mr. Shen Yinmo gave to me, but also is the most precious childhood memory Jiali left to me. I’ve browsed the Jiali Chu’s tribute website, and I was profoundly moved, it recalled my original memories on Jiali in our childhood: Jiali was an integrity person, studied very hard, followed discipline strictly, treated people friendly, and developed himself in all-round. Today I do learned a full images of Jiali, he is a man of honesty, diligence, enthusiasm and success, especially he shows me his courage and fearless spirit when facing the difficulties of political turmoil, challenge of immigration and serious disease, which really make me admire. As was said by Jiali’s friend, he is a real ‘Hero’. I’ll cherish the memory with Jiali and learn his attitude towards living and life. Deeply miss our classmate Chu Jiali.
